Historic Scotland

Historic Scotland is an executive agency of the Scottish Government and we are charged with safeguarding the nation’s historic environment and promoting its understanding and enjoyment on behalf of Scottish Ministers.

The objective of Historic Scotland’s Conservation Group is to inform and sustain the conservation, repair and maintenance of the built environment.

This is achieved through:

1) Undertaking technical and scientific research.

2) Supporting the perpetuation and understanding of traditional building skills.

3) Understanding and promoting the use and availability of traditional building materials.

4) Provision of specialist technical and scientific advice.

5) Provision of applied specialist conservation services.

6) Delivery of technical education and outreach activity.

In 2007 it joined the CyArk Foundation and in 2008 signed a formal agreement with Glasgow School of Art to research and develop reliable methods of data capture, 3D modeling, data archiving and presentation.
