Everyone here at CyArk has been gearing up for the SPAR 2010 conference in Houston, TX next week. For those of you who don't know, SPAR 2010's focus is "all about the business and technology of capturing, managing and integrating 3D information. [They] aim to inform and guide professionals with fresh information and insights about applying technology to mitigate risk, boost efficiency and improve safety." CyArk will have a fairly large presence at SPAR this year, so I wanted to provide a quick preview of what you can expect from us at the conference (if you're going), as well as what speakers and events we're particularly excited about.

Monday, February 8th
Gustavo Araoz, President of ICOMOS, will be speaking on how 3D documentation can change routine heritage conservation and disaster recovery, specifically regarding the recent devastation of Haiti.

CyArk will be hosting the conference lunch, with a keynote by Bonnie Burnham, President of the World Monuments Fund. We'll also be announcing a contest to win a hologram of one of our projects, so make sure you come to lunch. More on this at the end of the post.

Tuesday, February 9th
The roundtable discussion: Digital Historic Preservation will be moderated by Professor Dr. Dieter Fritsch of Stuttgart University and is about similarities and differences between heritage markets and commercial markets. Panelist include service providers, heritage professionals, government representatives and members of academia.

Wednesday, February 10th
The Heritage Preservation track starts at 8am with Gerard Baker, Superintendent at Mount Rushmore National Park; Douglas Pritchard, Head of Visualization at the Digital Design Studio, Glasgow School of Art; and David S. Mitchell, Director, Technical Conservation Group at Historic Scotland. CyArk has worked with all three of these speakers on the Scottish Ten project, so be sure to circle this session on your itinerary.

The second half of the Heritage Preservation track starts at 9:45 and features Professor Dr. Dieter Fritsch; Kat Vlahos, Head of the Center for Preservation Research at the University of Colorado, Denver and partner on CyArk's upcoming Fort Laramie project; long-time contributing partner and friend to CyArk Jöerg Bierwagen of Christofori und Partner; and CyArk's very own Elizabeth Lee. Again, not to be missed.

The Contest
CyArk will be raffling off a fantastic hologram of our yet-to-be-released Teotihuacan project which we worked on in partnership with the World Monuments Fund. The hologram comes courtesy of Zebra Imaging, a company that renders incredible visualizations of 3D data. They'll have a booth at SPAR as well, so make sure to stop by, say hi, and check out their fantastic work.

The rules of the contest are pretty simple. You'll receive a raffle card at lunch on Monday (see below). All you have to do is fill it out and tell us what you would scan, if you could scan anything in the world. After that, just drop the card off at the CyArk booth and we'll announce the winner at lunch on Tuesday.

See you at SPAR 2010!
