New 3D imaging technology – invented in the Bay Area by CyArk founder Ben Kacyra has been used to digitally preserve the venerable Mission Dolores, as part of a larger initiative to digitally preserve El Camino Real.

Please join us at Mission Dolores on October 25 for the public launch of the project. See how 3D laser scanning and high resolution photography of the Mission will support California’s bid to have El Camino Real inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Route.

The evening features live demonstrations of the 3D capture technology, a private tour of the Mission led by curator Andrew Galvan, and presentations by CyArk CEO Tom Greaves and honorary guests.

CyArk thanks Angela Alioto, Ed Del Beccaro, Bill Cumbelich, California Missions Foundations, EMC, Bill and Shand Green, the Institute of Classical Architecture & Art –Northern California, Carmel Mission Foundation, and Mission San Luis Rey for their generous support of this project.

Background
In order to better preserve and share the history of the route with a wider audience, CyArk is announcing a program to digitally preserve El Camino Real de California. This program will include the development of an interactive map to showcase the route, the digital documentation and dissemination of the 21 missions, 4 presidios, 3 pueblos and other
historic sites, and the development of conservation and educational deliverables.

CyArk will utilize the latest in reality capture technologies, such as 3D laser scanning and high definition photography, to accurately map each site along the route. The field capture will result in a highly accurate record of the site which will be archived for the future and utilized today to develop conservation tools for professionals and educational materials for 4th graders and the general public.
